PREVENTION IS POSSIBLE. TOGETHER WE CAN END CHILD ABUSE!

The Problem

Child abuse is an ugly reality of our society and is rampant across the world, with many cases going unreported. According to shocking findings in past years, an estimated 1,840 children have died from child abuse or neglect. That’s an average of five children a day.

Awareness and prevention are vital to making a difference and making the world a safer place for children.

The Solution

Prevention helps communities and families thrive. By driving policies and change throughout communities, we can work to keep families out of crisis before abuse begins.

Children do best when they grow with their own families and remain safely connected to their family and community. With awareness and prevention measures, we can build a safer world for our children!

Four Ways to Help Prevent Child Abuse.

1) Support Prevention Programs in your Community

Too often, intervention occurs only after abuse is reported. Greater investments are needed in programs that are proven to stop the abuse before it occurs. Prevention programs such as counseling and home visits to provide assistance to parents can make a huge difference!

2) Learn to Identify Signs of Abuse

Unexplained injuries aren’t the only signs of abuse. Here are some other signs of abuse:

  • Depression and anxiety
  • Fear of specific adults
  • Difficulty trusting others or making friends
  • Sudden changes in eating or sleeping patterns
  • Inappropriate sexual behavior
  • Poor hygiene
  • Secrecy
  • Hostility

3) Invest in Kids

Encourage leaders in your community to be supportive of children and families. Ask employers to provide family-friendly work environments. Ask your local and national lawmakers to support legislations to better protect our children and improve their lives.

4) Wear Blue for Awareness

Spread awareness for child abuse prevention by wearing blue! This is an easy thing that anyone can do to help promote prevention and education.
