I have it good. A roof over my head.
Food on the table, a family, a bed.
It wasn’t always like that.

I go camping, on vacations with
Family members who love and care for me.
It wasn’t always like that.

I have an amazing pair of people
Who I call my parents, I have pets
And books, instead of threats.
It wasn’t always that way.

It could still be like before.
Abuse, neglect, fear of safety.
Every now and then I’m reminded,
Of how good I have it.

Things you take for granted,
Like parents. Things you hate,
Like losing your phone, no ringing of calls, or being grounded,
Could be a much much much worse fate.

The family and friends I have now,
The home I live in,
The amazing life I have,
It wasn’t always like that.

The way it makes me feel,
Knowing that I have a family,
People I can count on, trust and love,
It wasn’t always like that.

Knowing that I have all I need and more,
Feeling the love of my foster parents,
Hoping, hoping, hoping
Not knowing what I am hoping for.

Knowing I can find peace from internal strife,
Knowing that I have a place where I belong,
Thinking every day, this is my home and my family.
Knowing that my life went from bad to good, as it should.
All by two people, their grace, means the world to me. I hope
My words might have an impact,
But it wasn’t always like that.
