Hello from Wellington, Kansas! I have been a foster parent since 2016 and I open my home to mostly teenagers. I enjoy the teens for several reasons; 1) They are FUNNY and all have a unique personality, 2) They are really little kids at heart once you get them one-on-one and they feel comfortable opening up their true selves, 3) Most teens feel unworthy, unwanted, unloved, and I get to be a part of their journey when they realize there are people out there who do care and want to help them become successful adults, 4) I was in foster care most of my teenage years and I really do understand how lonely and hopeless it feels.
A little more about me: I am a retired teacher and love retired life! I like day trips anywhere I can hit some easy trails and even better if there is a body of water at the end of the trail. I love cooking and trying new recipes. I have 2 chihuahuas that I love with all my heart; they both accompanied me to remote Alaska Bush where I taught for a year in an Eskimo village. I spend almost every day working on some kind of crocheting or knitting project; I have found my “self care” and working with yarn is soothing.
I have two adult children and two grandsons! My daughter lives in Lawrence, Kansas with her husband and my son lives in Arizona with his family. My mother is 89 years old and lives in Virginia; she is in amazing health both physically and mentally.
I am excited to be a part of the FPAT with TFI and hope to help others starting out on their fostering journey; I promise you that you will be blessed more than you know!
