May is recognized as National Foster Care Month
Parsons, Kansas (May 5, 2021) – There are approximately 6,900 children in foster care in Kansas. Through no fault of their own, children are placed daily in out of home care.There are many Kansas children in need of a temporary, loving place to call home. May is National Foster Care Month and is a great time to highlight the need for more foster parents in local communities. TFI especially needs foster parents willing to accept teenagers and sibling groups into their home.
Fortunately, it is now easier than ever to become a foster parent. With the ability of virtual learning, TFI is offers a one-on-one class, Deciding Together, for those interested in becoming foster parents.
We also still offer in-person foster parent classes, so we have different formats to meet each individual’s needs.
One local family, Jorge and Destiny Nunez-Munoz, made the decision to open up their heart and home to Kansas children in need by becoming a foster parent.
“I’ve always wanted to help children and families try to get back to a normal living environment. My childhood was not the greatest, and I was able to overcome that. We have since adopted two children and will continue to foster children in need,” said Destiny.
